How Do I Enroll My Child in  Vista Fundamental?

Thank you for your interest in our school!

Because Vista Fundamental is not a neighborhood school, we accept students through an application and lottery process. When there are more Kindergarten applicants than spaces available for the coming school year, students are randomly drawn and assigned a number (the lottery). Spaces are filled in order that the numbers are pulled and those who are not placed in an available space are then placed on a waiting list. Waiting lists are maintained for students of school age currently enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 6th. Applications for new students to be placed on the Vista Waiting List are available in the school office during regular school hours. New students are placed only during the late spring and summer months.

To apply for Vista enrollment, the student MUST live in the boundaries of the Simi Valley Unified School District (all of the city of Simi Valley and some outlying county areas). There are two fundamental schools serving the Simi Valley Unified School District: Vista Elementary School and Hollow Hills Elementary School. Each student can only participate in ONE LOTTERY and be on ONE WAITING LIST (not both schools).

KINDERGARTEN SIBLING ENROLLMENT

JANUARY 11 to 31, 2023

Kindergarten Sibling Registration packets will be available in the Vista office from January 11 to 31, 2023. Siblings qualify if an older student attended Vista and is currently enrolled at a SVUSD school. Completed enrollment forms must be returned to the office by 4 p.m. on January 31, 2023. Siblings not registered during this period will need to apply for the Kindergarten Lottery and placement will not be guaranteed.

KINDERGARTEN LOTTERY APPLICATIONS

FEBRUARY 1 - 9, 2023

Kindergarten Lottery applications will be available for pick-up in the Vista office from February 1 to 9, 2023. Applications must be returned to the Vista office by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023. The lottery will be held on February 10, 2023. Postcards will be mailed to you the week of February 13, 2023, informing parents of their child's lottery number.

To be eligible to participate in one of the Fundamental School lotteries, parents/guardians must attend one of the following informational presentations: a school tour; the parent information night; or the video presentation provided on the homepage of the website(coming soon). These presentations will provide information to help you make a decision about the fundamental school program as it relates to your child and family. The optional parent Q & A will be hosted on Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00 p.m. via zoom. (Once a student is enrolled and attending a fundamental school, he/she may not return to their home school during that school year.)

Applications must be picked up in the school office. They are not available online and cannot be mailed or faxed. Applications will be available on Wednesday, February 1. The application must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, and you must be a Simi Valley resident to apply. If you have any further questions, please call the Vista office at 805.520.6750.
